Rockstar hands Netflix the first real reveal of GTA 6
Rockstar Games is changing its approach. 🍿 For the first time in its history, the studio is handing the reveal of a GTA game to a streaming platform: Netflix will air the Extended Look as a worldwide exclusive, six hours ahead of everyone else.
🎬 The announcement teaser
Rockstar paired the announcement with a short video that makes the date official and unveils new artwork of Jason and Lucia. There's no gameplay in it — it's a trailer for a trailer, as several outlets joked — but it confirms the times in black and white.
📺 Mark your calendar: August 27 at 9:00 p.m.
The announcement dropped on August 6, simultaneously on the Rockstar Newswire and on Tudum, Netflix's editorial site. The premiere is set for Thursday, August 27 at 3:00 p.m. New York time, which is 9:00 p.m. in France.
No Netflix subscription? You'll have to wait until 3:00 a.m. on the night of August 27 to 28, when the video lands on Rockstar's YouTube channel and the game's official website. A juicy detail spotted by the US press: this six-hour gap isn't mentioned anywhere in Netflix's announcement.
🕐 The two times — Netflix on August 27 at 9:00 p.m. (Paris time), then YouTube and the official website on August 28 at 3:00 a.m. Six hours apart, no sign-up required. The Netflix event page is already live, with a notification reminder.
🎮 An “extended look,” not just another trailer
The wording — extended look — is no accident. Rockstar is talking about a longer preview, which hints at a video far longer than the 90 seconds of the first trailer. Neither the studio nor Netflix would specify the length or the content.
But one thing points to a real showcase: to date, no GTA 6 gameplay footage has ever been shown. The two trailers released so far, in December 2023 and then in May 2025, were purely cinematic. This time, the community is hoping for something concrete: missions, mechanics, the scale of the open world, how the protagonist duo is handled.
🚀 The real campaign kicks off
This broadcast marks the start of the final communication phase. Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two, had long said the marketing campaign would kick off in summer 2026: here we are.
Since the November 6, 2025 delay, which pushed the release to November 19, 2026, Rockstar had simply updated the date on its older trailers without releasing anything new. The Extended Look will therefore be the studio's first real statement in more than a year — and at that point, there will be 84 days left until launch.
As for the numbers, pre-orders, which opened in late June, are running at a level Take-Two calls unprecedented. Expect to pay $79 for the Standard Edition and $99 for the Ultimate Edition.
🤝 Rockstar and Netflix go way back
This partnership is hardly a bolt from the blue. Since December 2023, GTA: The Trilogy — The Definitive Edition has been available at no extra cost in the Netflix mobile app. The results speak for themselves: San Andreas is approaching 60 million downloads among subscribers, and Red Dead Redemption, which arrived in late 2025, has passed 10 million. Landing the premiere of the most anticipated game of the decade is the logical culmination.
🌴 What we know about the game
GTA 6 will take place in Vice City and the fictional state of Leonida, inspired by Florida. For the first time, players will follow a playable duo: Jason and Lucia, drawn into a criminal conspiracy after a heist goes wrong.
It launches on November 19, 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. No PC version has been announced so far.
