Rockstar in ShinyHunters' crosshairs: ransom demanded, data stolen

The ShinyHunters group hacked Rockstar Games through a flaw in Anodot. An ultimatum was issued: pay before April 14 or see data published. Rockstar confirms: the GTA VI source code and player accounts are untouched.

Rockstar Games has officially confirmed it was the victim of a cyberattack carried out by the hacker group ShinyHunters. The identified attack vector: a security flaw in Anodot, a third-party data analytics service used by the studio.

A short ultimatum, a ransom demanded

The attackers set a harsh deadline: pay the ransom before April 14, 2026, or see confidential data published online. Rockstar refused to negotiate and immediately launched an internal investigation with the help of cybersecurity experts.

What was exposed — and what was not

In an official statement, Rockstar Games said a limited amount of non-material data had been compromised. The key point: the GTA VI source code was not stolen, and players' personal data (Rockstar accounts, banking details) is not affected. The game's development and its November 19, 2026 release are not in question.
