GTA V bows out of Xbox Game Pass — a page turns before GTA VI

Microsoft has confirmed that Grand Theft Auto V will leave Game Pass on April 15, 2026. The departure symbolically marks the end of an era for one of the best-selling games in history, seven months before GTA VI.

Microsoft has officially announced that Grand Theft Auto V will leave the Xbox Game Pass catalogue on April 15, 2026. An expected decision, but one that symbolically marks the end of an era.

More than 13 years on the road

Released in September 2013 on Xbox 360, GTA V has crossed three console generations. Available on Game Pass for several years, it remains one of the most played games in history with more than 200 million copies sold across all platforms.

GTA VI takes over

The timing of this removal — seven months before GTA VI — hardly seems accidental. By pulling GTA V from Game Pass, Take-Two and Microsoft nudge players towards GTA VI at launch rather than extending their time on the previous game through a subscription.

GTA Online stays available to owners

An important clarification: the end of Game Pass does not mean the closure of GTA Online on Xbox. Players who bought GTA V can keep accessing the multiplayer mode as usual. Only the version included in the subscription disappears.
